Announcement Guidelines
Several people have expressed a desire for guidance on what constitutes appropriate content for an announcement. As this site belongs to the community, we expect community norms will gradually emerge, but in the meantime we encourage you to err on the side of adding more rather than being too reticent. We hope that you will always be asking yourself what news your society has to contribute here. This will make it a rich and lively place to visit. Simply fill out this form to create an announcement.
Format
Make the title descriptive and include the date: “Scientific Program” is a poor title. “Seminar on the Working Alliance with Sándor Ferenczi June 23” is a much better title and a surprising one. Specify your society or institute.
Content
Here are some preliminary ideas about what things might be good announcements:
- “Save the Date” - a scientific program is planned with more information to come.
- “Here’s the paper we’re going to discuss at this Friday’s meeting” (no copyright violations, please — certainly the nice people at PEP don’t want their material posted in this way, for example)
- Training program application deadline approaches
- Reminder to RSVP for an event
- A training program is inaugurated or revised (brochure attached)
- Review: “Last night’s scientific program was illuminating and lively for the following reasons….”
- “Our institute is pleased to announce a class is forming to begin in the Fall (and it is/isn’t not too late to join…)”
- Lecture/seminar series announced
- Graduation/ congratulations/ lamentations re: accomplishments, deaths, canonization etc
- Call for papers/ proposals/ grant applications
- Book announcements
- Referral service announcements/reminders
The following might NOT be appropriate for the Announcements page — but if there’s demand, we could easily make another page for them on the site:
- Individual practice announcements: opening/closing/moving etc
- psychotherapy groups forming, accepting referrals, etc
- study groups forming, accepting members, etc
- office space offered or sought
- anything announced by an individual as opposed to announced by an institute, center, etc
We welcome your elaborations and discussion of this matter.
