This presentation illustrates a contemporary perspective on Kohut’s foundational concepts in Self Psychology. Dr. Sandmeyer will explore the patient’s and the therapist’s subjective experience of the therapeutic relationship, and how that relationship enhances growth and change in both participants in the therapeutic encounter.
Janna Sandmeyer is a graduate of the ICP+P Psychotherapy Program. She has taught numerous courses on self psychology and intersubjective systems theory, both at ICP+P and at the Washington School of Psychiatry. Dr. Sandmeyer approaches clinical work from a contemporary perspective, incorporating aspects of self and relational, as well as intersubjective systems theory, which she will highlight in this case presentation.
